A GIFT FROM THE HEART....OF THE HEART
Brought up to be a champion.
Raised to take the race.
To me, you'll always be a winner.
To me, you'll always take 1st place.
For you were truly a gift,
one that came from the heart.
You were truly a present.
This, I knew from the start.
You were so overly shy
when we first did meet.
But out came your personality,
it was astonishingly unique.
The enthusiasm you showed,
when from work I'd arrive.
Once the cage door was opened,
you'd bounce, not ready to subside.
The one thing you really loved
which was quite easy to see.
Was a long rubby rub
across your skinny tummy.
For if we dared to stop
your paw would rise up in the air
and would furiously rub over
your little pointy ear.
And when nighttime would fall
and it was time for bed,
we'd hear grunts and groans
as she got comfy and laid down her head.
You were always my alarm clock
in the early morning time.
you'd whimper and cry until I'd get up
to meet the sunshine.
Zeta was truly our child
and always will be.
Now she's flying with the angels.
Now she is truly free.
For she came to me
as a gift from the start.
And she has left this earth
with a piece of our hearts.
"Bandit" Creel September 1985 - September 2000.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Mr. Creel! The Staff at SVC "Daisy" Michals March 1989-September 2000.
For 11 1/2 years, at least twice a day, I walked Daisy over to a pretty, grassy berm that bordered a 100-foot-wide South Florida Water Management District canal that runs through my townhouse development.
That's well over 11,000 trips and every single trip played out EXACTLY the same way. Rain or shine, night or day, warm or chilly.
I'd unsnap her off her leash and she'd trot down the berm -- her plumed tail held high, swishing back and forth like the needle on a metronome -- on her way to relieve herself. If there happened to be any wayward ducks, herons, anhigas or woodstorks walking the shoreline, she'd usually make a mad dash in their direction just long enough to make them take flight --- and then watch with child-like delight. As they soared above her, you could almost swear a "How the hell do they do that!" expression would cross her face each time.
Anyway, I digress.
So give or take an occasional feathered distraction, 11,000 round-trips to the canal always followed exactly the same pattern.
Until the very last afternoon on the very last day I walked her there before dropping her off at Ana's last Monday night.
I unsnapped the leash ... and instead of walking straight ahead down the berm, toward the water as she always did, Daisy turned abruptly and walked about 20 feet along the top of berm before lying down in the cool shade of a tree. She then lifted her nose into the wind -- as if drinking in the heavenly scent of some far away cheeseburger -- and just stared out over the vast expanse of grassy shoreline and water in front of her that she had frolicked along since the first day I had brought her home. I waited a few seconds, then walked over and sat down next to her.
She laid her head in my lap as I rubbed her ears and we just sat there together staring out at the last sunny vestiges of our last perfect summer's day together.
And then it was time to go.
Anthropomorphizing? Maybe. Then again, after 11,000 otherwise identical yet unremarkable trips, what are the odds that on our final walk together -- not to mention for the first time ever -- Daisy suddenly chose to lie down in the cool green grass, while her brain apparently processed familiar sights, smells and sounds for what she somehow knew would be the last time?
Sort of makes you stop and think, doesn't it?

"Simba" Lopez July 15, 1995 - September 12, 2000.
Although "Simba" was still a young man, he suffered from seizures and was suspected to have a brain tumor. His mother Mery decided he should not have to suffer anymore and sent him to play on the "Rainbow Bridge" knowing she would see him again one day. We miss him with you Mery! Our beloved "Hazel" February 7, 1985 - March 21, 2000.
Jim & Terri Limongi "Buddy" Curcio
Dr. Simmons, I know "Buddy" is our angel, always in our hearts! Such a tough decision to let him go! I don't know another doctor who I would not have second guessed. I know you put your heart into him and truly wanted him to be okay, somehow, even for just a little while. He passed knowing that we all loved him and tried to help him. Thank you for your love, compassion and knowledge. I respect you so much and appreciate your help more than I can say. "Buddy" was so special to me! John.......I will never forget him. You are one of the best "Dads" a dog could ever dream of having. Thanks for letting me know. ken "Freckles" O'Coin January 1992 - October 2000.
"Freckles" you were loved and will be missed by many. "Baby" Boyd April 1987 - February 2000.
"Baby" was an important member of his family with the Boyd's but he was also a special part of our SVC family as well. "Tinker" Rowland November 1985 - May 2000.
"Tinker" has been coming to SVC for a long time. We would like to send our deepest sympathy to her family. She will be missed! "Amber" Derck July 12, 1991 - October 19, 2000.
"Amber" was diagnosed with an untreatable cancerous
tumor. Through many efforts to keep her comfortable Mom & Dad Derck continued giving their devotion and love. They decided to send her to heaven where she would no longer suffer. Though it is a difficult time for them, they must take comfort in knowing that they gave her the best life a human could here on earth and were able to end her suffering.
Derck family our prayers and heartfelt sympathies are with you! "Tuxedo" Goff October 1983 - September 2000.
When I chose you at the Humane Society in 1983, you impressed me with the "take me" message in your eyes and your friendlly personality. We "connected" then and I took you home to live with me. You were the undisputed top cat during those years and convinced all visitors and animals with your "catitude". When you were diagnosed with diabetes, you took the insulin shots with courage and bravery. You had a fighting determination through every calamity and survived. Finally, after 17 years, I had to let you go, but there is an emptiness in my life that will never be replaced. Love, Chuck "Cleopatra" Hansen April 1985 - September 2000.
Our beloved "Cleo", she used to visit us twice
a week for subq fluids. She was in kidney failure. She was
a pretty good "sport" about it too. Even when we had to force
Laxatone into her she still managed to be good natured. Wanda
you have our utmost sympathy! Everyone at SVC loved "Cleo" and hated to see her go but rest assured she is feeling no pain.

"Casey" Dragunat November 1989 - October 2000.
Dr. Ana, We can't thank you enough for everything you did for "Casey" in the last four months. Words cannot express our gratitude. "Casey" felt as comfortable with you as we did and that was so important. We know how hard it was for you to spend those final moments with him. You are truly a special person with such devotion towards animals. Our "Casey" knew that too! The days have been hard without him. We still hear the jingle of his collar. When we get out of bed we sub-consciously step around the spot where he usually sleeps. We find ourselves spending more time away from the house since returning from vacation. His presence is missed greatly. You sympathy card summed it up well. He is out of sight but not out of mind. Thanks again for everything. Debi, Keith and Julianne Dragunat. "Lucky" Posner February 1987 - November 2000. "Taffy" Hyman November 24, 1983 - November 9, 2000.
Beloved friend and companion until the end.
Mom and Dad gave her the best life a dog could ever ask for. We send her now to the "Rainbow Bridge" where she will wait for the reunion with her loving parents "The Hyman's".

Today November 29th, we woke today with having made a
sad decision. Princess was ailing quickly, so the
decision was made that it was time to put her down. So this morning we took her to see her dear friend Dr.
Ken Simmons, even though her health was really poor,
she had her last burst of energy by playing tag of war
him. Something they always did together. My mother arrived yesterday, and this morning she
wrote a poem:
"In Memory of Princess"
Princess is gone
They took her away
Left Ace and me all alone
We loved that dear doggy
And the love that we shared
In this, our kind loving home.
They bought her Carey
when she was just a pup
A cute little black and white pooch
Now 14 years later
We will see her no more
And we all sure
Do miss her so much.
Her eye sight grew dim
And her hearing was gone
Loss of strength and weakness set in
She didn't eat much and just wanted to rest
How we hated to see her get so thin.
Now she is gone
She will suffer no more
For this we are most thankful for
But I'll never forget
The love that we shared
And wonderful memories galore
With a Doggy's love,
Tally
