Litter Box Blues

Dr. Ken Simmons - - Simmons Veterinary Hospital

Yes, it is true. If your cat has decided on a new litter box aka: the rug, the plant in the living room or even worse, your bed, maybe it is time to figure out why. Is waste scooped out daily? Is the litter changed completely at least weekly? Is the box scrubbed with soap and water? Is the box open? Is it in a low traffic area? If you answered no to any of these questions, you may find "kitty" searching for a new bathroom! Don't let it happen to you. Just as you are meticulous about the smell of your bathroom, "kitty" is too. Your feline companion may also like to close the door while he or she is indisposed but can't so a low traffic area for more privacy may do the trick. If you continue to have "litter box blues" call SVC and we will advise you of what to do. Your cat may have a medical problem such as a urinary tract infection or kidney problems so be sure to follow up. If you have a male cat that hasn't urinated call us immediately, he may be blocked.
